I'M GROWN, I VOTE!
GSULYP partnered with the Sacramento City Unified School District and Twin Rivers Unified School District to register senior high school students to vote so they could participate in the 2016 primary and general elections.
To do this, we hosted a spring assembly voter registration drive at each high school, featuring a short video presentation about the importance of voting and how to register. We collected voter registration forms from over 400 students over the course of the year, and signed the students up for a text message service that sent messages before election day to help identify their polling place, voting hours, and transportation assistance. They also received a cupcake to celebrate their 18th birthday and transition to adulthood.
We invite individuals and organizations to partner with us by:
1) Donating to cover project costs: We are asking partner organizations to contribute $300 toward this effort to cover the costs of the video production and supplies. We know you may be considering doing voter outreach activities this year and hope that you will consider joining us to make a citywide impact.
2) Providing volunteers. To do a citywide launch at 19 schools in one day we need volunteers to host the assemblies at each school.
